There are different types of oak from which to choose. Red and white oak are both great choices, it’s only a matter of what you want. Red oak is going to have a more red or pink tone, even after staining.

White oak flooring is a more versatile option. It’s lighter, and matches to design themes much easier. White Oak is by far the most popular option for new builds.

3. Durable Hickory Flooring

Hickory wood ranks pretty high on the Janka hardness scale (1820). That means it’s durable and will last a very long time. It’s one of the most durable domestic options you can find.

The downside to installing hickory in a home is that it’s not as affordable as oak or some other common wood. Though, it would still be quite the statement piece in any home. The natural variation between heart and sap wood in Hickory gives it the distinctive look that makes it so popular.
