Matching Stair Treads for Your Hardwood Stairs

September 29, 2021 By admin@fatcatstrategies.com

If you are living in a two or three-story home, stairs are probably a part of your daily routine. While you’re familiar with the use of your stairs, you’re probably unaware of how they contribute to the overall design of your home.

Solid wood stair treads are not a necessary part of having stairs, but there are many advantages to using these beautiful pieces of wood on your staircase. When planning to add real solid wood treads to your stairs, you will consider your choices of stain colors, wood species, and size.

Solid Wood Stair Treads

Wood stair treads are planks that create the perfect staircase for your home. These beautiful pieces of wood can be ordered to match your wood floors for the perfect segue to the 2nd or 3rd stories of your home. The stair treads rest directly on the staircase stringers and are a full 1″ thick.

One question we are frequently asked is if our stair treads are solid wood. Oak and Broad’s stair treads are made from solid wood. Our solid stair wood treads are several solid hardwood pieces milled to thickness, straight-lined, and then glued together.  These laminated treads are very durable, and a long-lasting product for your stair tread needs.  The process of laminating helps the treads remain stable, so they do not warp or twist.

The separate pieces of lumber are matched to their grain. They are then laminated together with grain pieces going in the opposite direction, which provides extra stability.  Using these adhesives results in joints that are typically more substantial than the wood itself. Matching the stain is necessary because different pieces of wood, even of the same type, always have some variations. Matching pieces with more variation and knots have become a trendy look in wood floors and treads.

At Oak and Broad, we offer solid wood stair treads in various sizes, shapes, and stains. We can help you decide which would look best for your staircase based on the flooring’s location, type, amount of traffic on the stairs, and the stain that is used on the wood at the top and bottom of the stairs.

Easy to Replace

Installing beautiful wooden stair treads is an investment that will last for years to come. Even when treads become damaged or worn, you can easily replace them with new ones to keep the stairs protected and looking beautiful. These stair treads can also aid in helping to strengthen and protect the construction of the staircase.
